How the tabs and links behave in GoodNotes
Every tab, calendar date and week label in the planner is a link to another page in the same file. GoodNotes follows those links in read-only mode. If you tap a tab while the pen is selected, you'll usually get a dot instead of a jump. That's the most common question we get, and switching to read-only mode fixes it.
Adding blank pages in GoodNotes is fine, because links point to pages rather than page numbers. Deleting pages is riskier: any link that pointed to a deleted page stops working. To drop a section, switch it off in the builder and download again rather than deleting pages by hand.
GoodNotes planner templates: free and custom
GoodNotes comes with free paper templates such as lined, dotted and grid pages, and it lets you import your own. Those are single pages, though, not a linked planner. A planner template from the builder is a whole year (or 18 months) of pages that link together: year, months, weeks, optional days and sections like habits, budget or lesson plans.
You can try one free: build it, then flip through every page in your browser with a watermark. You pay only for the clean download. Inside GoodNotes you can still add the app's own paper templates as extra pages wherever you need them.
Dark mode planners in GoodNotes
GoodNotes' own dark mode darkens the app around your pages, not the pages themselves. For dark pages, choose one of our dark themes: Dark Academia, Midnight Neon or Charcoal Minimal. Write with white or pastel ink, and test your highlighter, since some highlighters almost disappear on dark paper. Our dark mode guide has more tips.
