Guide

How to use a Christmas planner

A Christmas planner moves the busiest weeks of the year onto paper early, so December is spent doing things rather than remembering them. Most of the value comes from three lists made in November: who you're buying for, who gets a card, and what you're cooking.
  1. Set the holiday budget first

The holiday budget page has boxes for gifts, food and drinks, decorations, travel, cards and postage, and outings. Write a total for each before you shop, and the monthly budget tracks what's actually spent.

  2. Write the gift list in November

List everyone you're buying for with a gift idea and a budget. The bought and wrapped columns show at a glance what's left.

  3. Follow the countdown

The holiday countdown is already filled in from early November to the day: set the budget, order cards, decorate, check last posting dates, wrap, shop for food. Copy each job onto the week it belongs to.

  4. Keep the card list for next year

Write names and addresses with sent and received columns. Next year, the list is already done.

  5. Plan the big meal backwards

On the holiday meal plan, list each dish with prep time, cook time and who's making it, then write a cooking timeline working back from the time you want to eat.

  6. Use the party pages for hosting

If you're hosting a party or family gathering, the party pages cover guests and RSVPs, menu, shopping, decor and a day-of timeline.

What to include in a Christmas planner

A Christmas planner needs gift, card, food and money pages that work together. This one includes:

Calendar

Weekly and monthly pages

Dated calendars from November to January by default, with a weekly page for each week's countdown jobs and goal actions. No daily pages, so it stays short enough to print.

  • Card List · 2 pages
  • Holiday Meal Plan · 2 pages

Digital vs printable Christmas planner

A digital Christmas planner is with you when you're out shopping: open the gift list, tick what you've bought and check the budget before you pay. You can paste screenshots of gift ideas onto the ideas pages.

A printable Christmas planner works well in the kitchen. Print the holiday meal plan and cooking timeline on A4 or US Letter for the fridge, and keep the card list with your stamps and address book.

Questions

Christmas planner questions

Is it only for Christmas?

The holiday countdown is written for Christmas, but the gift list, card list, budget, meal plan and party pages work for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Diwali or any winter holiday. Change the start month in the builder and write your own dates on the countdown.

Is there a gift tracker?

Yes. Three gift list pages have columns for who it's for, the gift idea, budget, bought and wrapped, and the holiday budget page has boxes for gifts, food and drinks, decorations, travel, cards and postage, and outings.

Does it remind me about Black Friday and last posting dates?

Yes. The countdown has a Black Friday shopping reminder in late November and a last posting dates reminder in mid December. Posting dates vary by country and carrier, so check yours and write them on the month calendar.

Is there a free Christmas planner?

You can build this Christmas planner and flip through every page in your browser for free, with a watermark. The tabs and links work in the preview, so you can check the layout before you pay. The clean PDF is $12 once, or included in Pro at $49 a year for unlimited planners. There is no free download of the full planner.

Does it work with GoodNotes, Notability, Samsung Notes and e-ink tablets?

Yes. Download the iPad size for GoodNotes, Notability, Noteshelf, Xodo, Collanote or ZoomNotes; the Android size for Samsung Notes, Penly, Flexcil or Xodo; or the E-ink size for reMarkable, Kindle Scribe, Boox and Supernote. The links work in any app that follows PDF links, usually in read mode rather than pen mode. Every size is included in the price.

Can I print the Christmas planner?

Yes. Choose A5, A4, US Letter or Half Letter in the builder for a printable PDF with a wider inner margin for hole punching. Printable and digital sizes come with the same purchase, so you can use the Christmas planner on a tablet and print the pages you want on paper.

When does the Christmas planner start, and how long is it?

It starts in November and runs for 3 months by default, so it covers the run-up, the day itself and the weeks after. If you build it after November has begun, it starts in the current month instead. In the builder you can choose any start month and a length of 3, 6, 12 or 18 months, or switch to undated.

Does the AI fill in the Christmas planner for me?

Only the goal parts, and only if you want it to. Type up to six goals and the AI writes a milestone for each month and a short action for each week onto your month and week pages, plus a motto for each month. You can edit every line before you download. Everything else, from the calendar pages to the trackers, is yours to fill in by hand. You can try it 3 times a day without an account.

Make it yours in about a minute.

Set your dates, device and goals, flip through the preview free, and pay only when it's right.
