Getting the most from a gratitude journal.
Write three specific things
"My family" is true but vague. "Mia made me laugh at breakfast" is specific, and specific entries are the ones that actually change how you remember the day. Aim for three short lines each night.
Tie it to something you already do
Keep the page next to your bed or toothbrush, or open it in GoodNotes before you plug in your phone. Linking it to an existing habit makes it far easier to keep up.
Don't skip the hard days
On a bad day, write smaller things: a hot shower, a kind message, the day being over. Those entries are often the ones you value most when you reread the week.
Choose the best moment on Sunday
Read back over the seven boxes and pick one moment for the last box. Over a few months, those best moments make a lovely record of the year.
Share it as a family
At dinner, each person says one thing they're grateful for, and one person writes them in that day's box. Children pick it up quickly and look forward to it.

About this gratitude journal template
Need help importing it? See devices and apps or the FAQ.
What do I write in a gratitude journal?
Small, specific things that went well or that you appreciated today: people, moments, comforts, things you noticed. Three a day is a good number; it's enough to look for and not so many that it becomes a chore.
Why is it weekly instead of daily?
A week on one page is quick to fill and easy to look back over. You can see the whole week's good moments at once, which a page per day doesn't give you.
Can kids use this gratitude journal?
Yes. The boxes are big enough for a drawing or a single sentence. Younger children can tell an adult what to write.
Is there a full gratitude journal?
Yes. The gratitude journal planner has a weekly gratitude page for every week of the year, plus affirmations, journal pages and a mood year in pixels, all linked.
