Getting the most from a habit tracker.
Start with fewer habits than you want
Three to five is plenty for the first month. A page of mostly empty rows is discouraging; a short list you fill most days builds momentum. Add a habit once the first ones feel automatic.
Write habits you can tick honestly
"Read 10 pages" is easier to mark than "read more". Phrase each habit so that on any evening you know straight away whether it's done.
Fill it in at a fixed time
Tick the boxes at the same point each day, such as after dinner or before bed. Keep the printout somewhere you'll see it, or pin the page in your note app.
Cross out days that don't apply
If a habit is weekdays only, cross out the weekend boxes when you set up the month. Then an empty box always means a missed day, and the gaps tell you something.
Use the reflection lines
At the end of the month, write which habit stuck, which didn't and why. Carry the ones that stuck onto next month's page and shrink or drop the rest.

Is this habit tracker template free?
Yes. Every download on this page is free and doesn't need an account or an email address. Print it or import it as often as you like for your own use.
How many habits can I track on one page?
One habit per row. The rows fill the page down to the reflection box, and the label column is wide enough for a short phrase like "Walk 20 minutes".
How do I use it in GoodNotes or Notability?
Download the iPad / GoodNotes version. In GoodNotes, tap + then Import and choose the PDF; in Notability, tap Import and pick it from Files. To reuse a page, duplicate it from the page thumbnails instead of downloading it again.
Does it work on a reMarkable or Kindle Scribe?
Yes. The e-ink download is sized for e-ink screens and uses a black-and-white theme with no grey fills that are hard to see. Upload it with the reMarkable app or Send to Kindle and write on it like any notebook.
Can I get it with my own habits printed on it?
Yes, in a full planner. Type up to 12 habits in the builder and they're printed on every monthly tracker, with the right number of days and weekends shaded for each month.
