Backpackers on a daily budget, families on holiday, groups splitting costs, and anyone travelling to a country with a different currency who wants to keep an eye on spending.
Getting the most from a travel budget.
Pre-fill the big costs
Before you go, write in flights, accommodation, insurance and any booked tours. You'll see how much is left for daily spending.
Set a daily spending limit
Divide what's left by the number of days. Write the daily limit at the top and compare each day's total with it.
Use simple categories
Transport, food, stay, activities, shopping, other. Four to six categories is enough to see where the money went.
Note the currency
If you're abroad, write costs in the local currency and convert at the end, or note both. Card fees and ATM charges count too.
Keep it in your bag
A printout folded in your passport wallet or a page on your tablet makes logging a two-second habit at the end of each day.

How do I make a travel budget?
Add up the fixed costs (flights, stay, insurance), decide a daily amount for food, transport and activities, multiply by the number of days and add a buffer. Then log real spending against it.
How many expenses fit on a page?
Around 30 rows on the printable versions. For long trips, use a page per week.
Can I share it with travel companions?
Yes. Add initials in the what column to show who paid, and settle up at the end.
What's in the travel planner?
A trip overview, an itinerary, a packing list, this travel budget and trip memories pages, linked from the side tabs.
Should I include costs I paid before the trip?
Yes. Write flights, accommodation and insurance as the first rows so the total shows the true cost of the trip.
