Who it's for
First-time parents who aren't sure what to pack, parents having a planned caesarean or induction who want to be ready by a set date, and birth partners who want their own list.
Getting the most from a hospital bag checklist.
Pack by 36 weeks
Most people aim to have the bag ready by around 36 weeks, earlier if you're expecting twins or have been told baby may come early.
Add your own items to each box
The printed items are a start. Add things like a long phone cable, lip balm, hair ties, maternity pads, a dressing gown and baby hats.
Keep documents in one pocket
Put ID, insurance or maternity notes and the birth plan in a single folder or bag pocket, and tick them off the documents list.
Give your partner their own list
The partner box is for snacks, a change of clothes and a water bottle. Long labours are hungry work for them too.
Leave the car seat in the car
Fit the car seat before your due date and tick it off. It's one of the things you can't leave hospital without.
