Who it's for
New parents in the first weeks, parents of premature or small babies asked to track feeds, families sharing night feeds between partners or grandparents, and nannies and childminders who report feeds to parents.
Getting the most from a baby feeding log.
Write the start time of each feed
Feeds are usually counted from when one starts to when the next starts. Writing the start time makes the gaps easy to see.
Use the amount or side column for both feeding types
For breastfeeding, write L, R or both and roughly how long. For bottles, write the amount in ml or oz. Mixed feeding fits too.
Tick wet and dirty nappies
A W or D in the nappy column is enough. In the early weeks, midwives and health visitors often ask how many of each your baby is having.
Use the dark version at night
If you log on a tablet or phone during night feeds, the dark theme is much easier on tired eyes and less likely to wake you fully.
Share it with your partner
Keep the log in one place, like a clipboard by the changing table or a shared notebook, so whoever does the next feed knows when the last one was.

About this baby feeding log template
Need help importing it? See devices and apps or the FAQ.
What should I log for a newborn?
Feed times, feed type and amount or side, nappies, sleep and anything unusual. The template has a column for each.
How many feeds fit on a page?
Around 20 rows on the printable pages, which is roughly a day and night for a newborn. Print a page per day or use the iPad version and duplicate it.
Is it for breastfeeding or formula?
Both. Write the side and minutes for breastfeeding, the amount for bottles, or both for mixed feeding.
When should I worry?
The log isn't medical advice. If your baby isn't feeding, has few wet nappies, seems very sleepy or unwell, contact your midwife, health visitor or doctor.
