Who it's for
Families who overspend every December, people saving for Christmas through the year, and anyone hosting the holidays who wants food, travel and gifts in one plan.
Getting the most from a christmas budget.
Set one total first
Decide the total you can spend on the holidays without borrowing, then split it across the six boxes. Write each limit at the top of its box.
Budget for the forgotten costs
Postage, wrapping, batteries, office collections, school gifts, party outfits and travel all add up. The boxes for cards and postage and for events catch most of them.
Start saving in summer
Divide your total by the months left and save that each month in a sinking fund. Paying cash in December feels very different from paying a card bill in January.
Track as you spend
Under each limit, write each purchase and a running total. When a box is full, stop or move money from another box on purpose.
Use the gift list with it
The Christmas gift list template sets a budget per person. Its total should match the limit in your gifts box.
