- Boxes for what went well, what I need, something I appreciate and our plan

Who it's for
Couples who want to stay connected, newlyweds building habits, couples going through a busy season like a new baby or job, and partners in long-distance relationships.
Getting the most from a relationship check-in.
Rate separately, then compare
Each fill in the ratings on your own copy first. The differences are the most useful thing to talk about.
Start with what went well
Opening with the positives makes the harder conversations easier.
Use "I need", not "you never"
The what I need box is for requests, not complaints. "I need more time together on weekends" invites a plan.
Be specific with appreciation
"Thank you for handling the school forms" lands better than "thanks for everything".
Agree one or two plans
Finish with one or two small actions for next month, like a date night or a budget chat, and write them in our plan.
End on something fun
Finish each check-in with something enjoyable, like a walk, dessert or a favourite show, so it feels like time together, not a meeting.

About this relationship check-in template
Need help importing it? See devices and apps or the FAQ.
What is a relationship check-in?
A regular, structured conversation where partners talk about how things are going, what they appreciate and what they need. Monthly is common.
How long does it take?
Thirty minutes to an hour. Pick a relaxed time without screens.
Do we each need a copy?
It helps. Print two, or import the PDF on both devices, and fill in the ratings separately.
Is it a replacement for counselling?
No. It's a tool for everyday connection. If you're struggling, a couples counsellor can help.
How often should couples check in?
Monthly suits most couples. Some prefer a short weekly version using just the four boxes.
What if we rate things very differently?
That's useful information, not a problem. Ask each other why, listen, and agree one small change.
