Who it's for
Families who stock up, people building an emergency food supply, meal planners, and anyone who keeps buying a third jar of something they already had. Food bank volunteers and small community kitchens also use simple inventories like this one to keep track of donated stock and use-by dates.
Getting the most from a pantry inventory.
List the staples you always want
Rice, pasta, tins, flour, oil, spices, breakfast foods. Start with what you'd be annoyed to run out of.
Set restock levels
Write the quantity at which you buy more, such as "2 tins". When stock hits it, add it to the grocery list.
Note where things live
Cupboard, pantry shelf, basement, garage. It helps everyone in the house find things and stops duplicate buying.
Rotate by use-by
Put new items at the back and write use-by dates for things you stock up on.
Check it before shopping
A two-minute check against the inventory keeps the grocery list complete.
Keep a running restock list
When an item hits its restock level, copy it to the grocery list straight away. The two pages work together so you never run out.
