Who it's for
Teachers planning the school year, department heads aligning subjects, homeschool parents mapping the year for one or more children, and new teachers who need an overview before planning units.
Getting the most from a curriculum map.
Block out holidays and testing first
Shade school holidays, testing windows and big events before you add units. They decide how much teaching time each month really has.
Write unit names, not lessons
Each box needs a unit or topic name, like "Fractions" or "Ancient Egypt". The detail lives in unit plans.
Look across subjects for links
Reading a column top to bottom shows what's taught in the same month. It's an easy way to spot cross-curricular projects.
Start the year where your school does
The months run August to July. If your year starts in September or January, simply cross out and relabel.
Update it as you go
Units run long. Moving things in pencil or on a tablet keeps the map honest and helps next year's planning.
Share it with families
A one-page overview of the year is reassuring for parents and helps them support learning at home. Share a clean copy at the start of term, or send each month's column in a newsletter.

What is a curriculum map?
An overview of what's taught in each subject month by month across the school year. It's sometimes called a scope and sequence or a year at a glance.
How many subjects fit?
Six rows on the page. Use a second page for more subjects, or one page per grade.
Is it for homeschool too?
Yes. Homeschool families use it to plan the year for one or several children.
Which months does it show?
August to July, the usual US school year. Relabel the columns if your year runs differently.
How detailed should a curriculum map be?
Unit or topic names in each box is enough. Detail belongs in unit plans and lesson plans.
