Getting the most from a moving checklist.
Start at eight weeks if you can
Quotes, booking movers and decluttering take longer than you think. The countdown starts at eight weeks for that reason.
Declutter before you pack
Every item you sell, donate or bin is one you don't pay to move. Do it in the first two weeks of the countdown.
Number every box
Write the number on the box and the contents in the inventory. When something is missing, you'll know which box to open.
Pack an open-first box
Kettle, mugs, toilet roll, chargers, bedding, medication and a few tools. Mark it clearly and move it yourself.
Change your address in batches
Do the bank, employer, insurance and post redirect two to four weeks before, and the rest in the first week after.

Who do I need to tell when I move?
Your bank, employer, doctor and dentist, insurers, vehicle licensing, post office, subscriptions, phone and internet, school, and friends and family. They're printed on the change of address page.
Can I use it for an international move?
Yes. Add visa, shipping and customs tasks to the countdown. The visa document checklist helps if you're relocating for work or study.
