Who it's for
Primary and middle school children, parents helping kids build homework habits, children with ADHD who need a visual week, and tutors who set work between sessions.
Getting the most from a homework planner.
Fill in subjects on Sunday
Write the subjects in the row labels once at the start of the week. Then homework only needs a few words in the right box.
Write it in the day it's due
Teach children to write homework in the column for when it's due, not when it was set. The planner then shows what has to be done tonight.
Use the bring-to-school list
PE kit, library book, signed forms, money for a trip. Checking the list before bed saves frantic mornings.
Tick when it's in the bag
Homework isn't done until it's packed. A tick for done and a second tick for packed works well for forgetful kids.
Keep it on the fridge
A printout on the fridge lets the whole family see the week, and it's a quick conversation at dinner.
Sit together for the first few weeks
Help your child fill it in for the first couple of weeks, then gradually step back. The aim is for them to own the planner, with you checking rather than writing.
