Guide

How to use a monthly planner

A monthly planner suits people whose weeks are already handled by a phone calendar or a work diary, but who still want somewhere to see the month as a whole. One sitting at the end of each month is enough to keep it useful.
  1. Plan the month before it starts

On the last weekend of the month, open next month's page. Add fixed dates first: birthdays, bills, trips, appointments.

  2. Write three focus points

Each month page has a focus list. Three things that would make the month a success is plenty; more turns into a to-do list.

  3. Set habits for the month

The habit tracker carries your habits on every month. Change one or two each month rather than starting over.

  4. Glance at it weekly

Without weekly pages, a quick look every Sunday keeps the month in view. Add anything new straight onto the calendar.

  5. Review before you turn the page

The monthly review rates energy, focus, health, relationships, money and joy, then asks what drained you and what's next.

What to include in a monthly planner

A monthly planner should stay small. This one has the calendar and three sections:

Calendar

Weekly and monthly pages

Twelve dated month calendars with a focus list and notes, a year overview and a year goals page. Weekly and daily pages are switched off, which keeps the whole year to around 60 pages.

Goals

Goals

A vision board, goal planners with milestones, quarterly resets and a year-in-review page.

  • Vision Board · 1 page
  • Goal Planner · 4 pages
  • Quarterly Reset · 4 pages
  • Year in Review · 1 page
Habits

Habits

A habit tracker for every month with your habits printed in.

  • Habit Tracker · every month
Review

Monthly Reviews

A review page at the end of every month.

  • Monthly Review · every month

Every section can be switched off in the builder, and sections from other planners can be added.

Digital vs printable monthly planner

A monthly planner prints well: twelve month pages and their trackers fit easily in a slim A4 or US Letter folder, and a month on the wall or fridge is easy to keep up.

Digitally it's light enough for any app and quick on e-ink tablets, where page turns are slower. The month tabs take you straight to any month.

An example week in a monthly planner

One goal, followed through a single week. The milestone and weekly actions are the kind of lines the AI goal step writes onto your month and week pages; the daily notes are what you add by hand.

Questions

Monthly planner questions

Can I add weekly pages later?

Yes. Switch weekly pages on in the builder and download it again. If you've bought it, regenerating the same planner is included.

How many pages is it?

Around 60 with the default settings: twelve month pages, twelve habit trackers, twelve reviews, goal pages and 20 notes pages. It's light enough for any app or e-ink tablet.

Is there a free monthly planner?

You can build this monthly planner and flip through every page in your browser for free, with a watermark. The tabs and links work in the preview, so you can check the layout before you pay. The clean PDF is $12 once, or included in Pro at $49 a year for unlimited planners. There is no free download of the full planner.

Does it work with GoodNotes, Notability, Samsung Notes and e-ink tablets?

Yes. Download the iPad size for GoodNotes, Notability, Noteshelf, Xodo, Collanote or ZoomNotes; the Android size for Samsung Notes, Penly, Flexcil or Xodo; or the E-ink size for reMarkable, Kindle Scribe, Boox and Supernote. The links work in any app that follows PDF links, usually in read mode rather than pen mode. Every size is included in the price.

Can I print the monthly planner?

Yes. Choose A5, A4, US Letter or Half Letter in the builder for a printable PDF with a wider inner margin for hole punching. Printable and digital sizes come with the same purchase, so you can use the monthly planner on a tablet and print the pages you want on paper.

Is the monthly planner dated or undated?

Dated by default, starting in January 2027. You can pick any start month and year (including this month), a length from 3 months to 5 years, and Monday or Sunday weeks. Or switch to undated and write the dates in yourself, so a skipped week isn't wasted.

Does the AI fill in the monthly planner for me?

Only the goal parts, and only if you want it to. Type up to six goals and the AI writes a milestone for each month and a short action for each week onto your month and week pages, plus a motto for each month. You can edit every line before you download. Everything else, from the calendar pages to the trackers, is yours to fill in by hand. You can try it 3 times a day without an account.

Make it yours in about a minute.

Set your dates, device and goals, flip through the preview free, and pay only when it's right.
