How to use an IEP binder for parents

Parents often hold the longest view of a child's education: every IEP, every progress report, every email with school. An IEP binder keeps it all in one place, which makes meetings calmer and follow-ups easier.
  1. Summarise the current IEP

On the summary page, write the IEP date, re-evaluation date, case manager, accommodations, services and minutes, strengths and concerns.

  2. Track each goal

The goals and progress page lists each goal in short form, with a column for each progress report.

  3. Prepare for every meeting

Write your child's strengths, your concerns and your questions on a meeting prep page beforehand, then what was agreed during the meeting.

  4. Log every contact

Date, who, how, what it was about and the follow-up. Patterns and promises are easy to find later.

  5. Keep health details nearby

Appointments and a medication tracker help when health and school overlap.

What to include in an IEP binder for parents

An IEP binder for parents needs the plan, the progress and the paper trail. This one includes:

Calendar

Weekly and monthly pages

School-year month pages from August for IEP dates, reviews and report cards. Weekly and daily pages are off; it's a binder, not a diary.

Every section can be switched off in the builder, and sections from other planners can be added.

Digital vs printable IEP binder for parents

A printed IEP binder is easy to bring to meetings: print the summary, goals and meeting prep pages on US Letter, and add copies of the IEP and reports behind them.

A digital version is easier to keep up to date; paste in photos of work samples or screenshots of emails next to the communication log.

Is there a free IEP binder for parents?

You can build this IEP binder for parents and flip through every page in your browser for free, with a watermark. The tabs and links work in the preview, so you can check the layout before you pay. Does it work with GoodNotes, Notability, Samsung Notes and e-ink tablets?

When does the 2026–2027 IEP binder for parents start?

It starts in August and runs to July by default. In the builder you can choose any start month and year, including this month so you don't pay for pages that are already past, and a 12 or 18-month length. Switch to undated if you'd rather write the dates yourself.

Does the AI fill in the IEP binder for parents for me?

Only the goal parts, and only if you want it to. Type up to six goals and the AI writes a milestone for each month and a short action for each week onto your month and week pages, plus a motto for each month. You can edit every line before you download. Everything else, from the calendar pages to the trackers, is yours to fill in by hand. You can try it 3 times a day without an account.

How many pages is the IEP binder for parents?

With the default settings it comes to about 67 pages. That includes 12 month pages, the IEP Binder, Contacts & Dates and Health Admin pages and 20 notes pages. Switching off sections makes it shorter, and the builder shows the total as you change things.

Make it yours in about a minute.
