Who it's for
New runners following a couch-to-5K plan, club runners training for a half or full marathon, and anyone who wants to track pace, effort and shoe mileage without a sports watch app.
Getting the most from a running log.
Write the plan before the run
Fill in the planned column the night before: "easy 5 km", "6 × 400 m", "long run 14 km". Comparing planned and actual shows whether your training is going to plan.
Rate effort honestly
Most runs should feel easy, around 3 to 5 out of 10. If your easy days are all 7s, the log will show it, and that's often why runners feel tired.
Track your shoes
Writing which pair you ran in tells you how much mileage each pair has done. Many runners replace shoes somewhere between 500 and 800 km (300 to 500 miles).
Increase mileage gradually
On the weekly page, build distance slowly and add a lighter week every three or four weeks. Sudden jumps are a common cause of injury.
Note how your body feels
Niggles, sleep, weather and fuelling go in the notes. If something hurts on several runs in a row, the log will show it before it becomes an injury.

What does the running log track?
For each run: date, planned session, distance, time, pace, effort 1–10, shoes and notes. Page two tracks sixteen weeks of planned and actual mileage and your long run.
Does it work in miles and kilometres?
Yes. No units are printed; write mi or km at the top and use it throughout.
Can I use it for half marathon or marathon training?
Yes. Sixteen weeks of mileage fits most half and full marathon plans. The running planner also has training plan pages and race plans.
Is it only for running?
It suits walking, hiking or cycling too. For gym sessions, the workout log is a better fit.
